licensing problems, weird host PC crashes, etc. (not saying UAD etc doesn't)Įxperienced several different late nights dealing with waves issues during shop prep. But wavesĭoes introduce more failure points. I expect these issues to become less and less as product cycles mature. Haven't been on a show site for a modern waves crash, but they do happen, have heard secondhand accounts of S6l and stealth core era digico waves crashes, can't remember if a concrete fault was nailed down. Secondhand, heard of more serious waves crashes on the old venue hardware with various plugs (full scale noise output etc), but dunno if pre V9 or not. (if anyone wants to talk about making a waves rig more reliable, redundancy steps, or what really goes in to a proper bail out macro, i'm happy to rant some more)Ī few serious interface lag issues with v9 C6 on a sc48 (I think that plugin was pushing the sc48 hardware a bit.) Locked up on the plugin page for multiple seconds. and again, knock on wood, i don't think i have in years. sure, i still have a wired spare at every show i do, but when everything is done right i really don't expect to use it. Saying you've had a multirack crash and not being able to answer "what network cables/switch were you using" is the same as complaining about RF dropouts and not knowing what band you're in or if it's legal. and i test my bailout macro every soundcheck just in case. turns out i was just sloppy after 6 months off. just the other month i had a clocking tick through the PA every 30 seconds during setup that i blamed on waves.

i've had problems getting connections at setup, license issues at home, server firmware rollback headaches. so ignoring all that crap that the audience/artist will never know about, how many of you working on a proper, waves approved system, have actually experienced a crash mid-show, first-hand? knock on wood, i haven't. Yes we all hate their selling/sales tactics, yes something else you own from UAD sounds better, no we don't "need" waves to have a good sounding show, yes that kid is ruining their mix with 400 plugins, sure analog sounds better, yes waves central can be annoying (and ilok authorization used to be worse), yes it was easier when waves ran on the console (but it really wasn't), yes latency is a concern, yes WUP is essentially a subscription service we all pay into without calling it that, and keeping firmware straight between devices can be a pain.īut NONE of that is a crash. To be clear, i'm talking last few years (let's say v9 and newer), on proper waves servers (not home brew), owned licenses (no cracks), and waves certified components (stp cabling, certified switches, the whole 9 yards). but honestly, how many of you have actually had major waves crashes? i myself preach the practice of redundancy and bail out macros myself when it comes to waves in my show files.

Go anywhere on the audio-internet and mention the word waves and people will come out of the woodwork screaming about crashes and problems. r/broadcastengineering - Broadcast Engineering.r/projection_mapping - Projection Mapping. You might find these other subreddits useful: These rules are implemented at the moderators' discretion.
